Neil Taylor doing a breaking demonstration on July 2, 1983 |
After over 20 years (since Feb 1987) without seeing Neil Taylor and now on Saturday October 27th, I was driving to Michigan to see my old friend. Wow.! I was very excited! Neil was one of my first students and also a good friend and now I was coming to watch him working out and to meet his new Sensei. I arrived at his class shortly after 10:30 AM where l was received with a welcome bow by the entire class and Sensei Gottlieb. I watched, very impressed, the 2 hours class and at break time, Neil and I embraced each other in a huge welcome hug; it was like the 20 years dark tunnel came to a bright light.
At the end of the class, l chatted with some of the students and Sensei Gottlieb. I enjoyed watching the Shotokan class and the traditional way it was run. I got an open invitation to come back that I hope to take them on.
Also, I had the chance to meet Neil’s son Erik for the first time. After the class was over, Neil and I went for a coffee where we reminisced for 3 wonderful hours (just a nice coffee break)
P.S. Thanks Neil !!, Myrna took your advice and spent all my money shopping.
