Denis Labbe, 6th Dan E-Mail:
Denis Labbe I started karate in 1972 when Sensei Shintani came to my high school for a demonstration. After six months, Sensei moved the school club to the Welland Karate Club on Hagar Street where I met Sensei Peter Ciolfi as a brown belt. I received my black belt in 1975 and have teaching for Sensei Shintani since 1974. Since then, I was one of the six instructors teaching for the Welland YMCA Wado Kai Karate Club.
In 1982, Sensei Shintani formed an Executive Committee of 13 members and their assistants for his organization. As Secretary General, the task was overwhelming. At first many of us, the executive members were on most sub-committees. Long hours and traveling has paid off in the success of Sensei's organization.
On October 1st, 1997 the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation became incorporated with 10 Senators. At our first senate meeting, I was appointed Vice-President and Secretary General for the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation. My goal is to make sure that we follow the concept and philosophy that Sensei has worked so hard to maintain for his organization.
The direction of the Shintani Wado Kai Federation is Team Work. Starting at the club, every karateka should be informed. The organization is designed for every member to participate and get involved. To pursue Sensei Shintani's dream to grow and to be strong and large organization, we must work together as a family team member.

EDITOR'S NOTE:
The first meeting of the Federation Senate, held in Toronto, on November 1, 1997, Sensei Masaru Shintani designated Sensei Denis Labbe as his successor. Sensei Denis will take over the position of President when Sensei Shintani dies or is incapable of carrying out his role as the Supreme Instructor. This has been done in accordance with the By-laws of the Senate and is a signed document.
